Divorce proceedings start with filling out state specific divorce papers or forms. Each state has own divorce laws, which practically means that the filing for divorce and the divorce forms will vary from state to state. Sometimes the difference is quite significant, in other cases the forms vary only slightly. For example in some states the filing spouse is referred to as “Petitioner” and in other states it is referred as “Plaintiff”. In any case, these state specific issues are easily addressed through the state-specific forms to make sure that your filing is accepted by the court in your county.
